We got A-chan to go to sleep without her paci last night! Of course it was a day without a nap, after dance class & swim class so she was totally exhausted. But it worked!We told her that it was really hurting her teeth and her ability to communicate with us. She seemed to understand and said okay, that she would sleep without it.
Lately we had been able to tell a huge difference in her teeth and her speech that we believe is related to the use of the paci. We had to have some kind of definitive proof that it was detrimental to her to get us to take away something that our sweet girl loves so much.
We've been putting it off for so long because she has been extremely dependent upon the paci forever, and we've been dreading the day when we had to take it away - fearing that there would be dire tantrums and a flood of tears. It was actually a little anticlimactic how she just agreed that "pink paci hurting my teeth, no more pink paci." But what a huge relief as well. I've been so proud of her for giving it up!
Edit: So far it's been 6 days!! She did ask after pink paci today, but was willing enough to agree that she didn't need it anymore. Yahoo! The first night was no problem, but other nights she has been a bit restless, more so by far than when she did sleep with the paci. We have been amazed at how well it's gone and that she seems to truly understand the reason behind it.
